Should Zion Williamson run back to Duke?
Williamson might have too much at stake to come back to Duke, but that doesn't mean it wouldn't be the better decision. There has never been a player as hyped as Williamson who went back to school, but the Pelicans proved they are unable to handle superstar talent. They are wasting prime years of Anthony Davis, so why not go back to Duke where you are beloved, winning and able to wait for a better team in the NBA?
Even Williamson has admitted he would return for a second season in Durham if he wasn't so highly coveted. He loves the campus and there is no need to waste his time with a subpar franchise that's only going to make him unhappy. He'll still be just as wanted next year after he dominates the college level again.
Long-term happiness shouldn't be sacrificed for short-term financial gain. Going back to Duke is the best option.
Zion Williamson might not be happy right now, but he will be when that first NBA check hits his bank account.
There is way too much money on the table for him to go back to being an unpaid laborer at Duke. As it stands now, Williamson is predicted to make at least $9 million in base salary before taxes. That doesn't include the millions he will make from endorsements and other forms of revenue that are unavailable to him in college.
Duke might have been his home, but New Orleans is a great city that he will learn to love as they shower him with praise. Going to the NBA is the only choice he should make.
