Best face of the WWE: 'Stone Cold' Steve Austin or Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson?
The Attitude Era of the WWE was one of the most entertaining in the company's history, and "Stone Cold" Steve Austin was the toughest S.O.B. on the show. Austin wasn't the most morally upstanding, nor was he a great role model. He drank beer and got in everyone's face, but went head-to-head with some of the biggest villains of his generation. He was the anti-hero that WWE fans deserved.
The Texas Rattlesnake showed no mercy in his clashes with WWE Chairman Vince McMahon. Fans lived vicariously through his antics, embracing Austin's battles against his boss like they were getting over on their own superiors as well. Heroes come in all forms an Austin was the hero that would talk smack, beat you down and talk some more.
He was the greatest face of the WWE, and that's the bottom line because Stone Cold said so!
There have been superstars in the WWE before, but no one was bigger than Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson. From his iconic entrance music to his athletic performances in the ring, Johnson took his popularity in pro wrestling and transcended to mainstream megastardom never seen before.
Johnson may have strayed from his face role into heeldom a few times but his time as a hero lit the WWE on fire, powering the company to one of the most popular eras of professional wrestling. Johnson wasn't just a star—he was THE star. Do you smell what the Rock is cooking?
He may have been one of the best athletes on WWE roster—Johnson was a national championship football player at the University of Miami—but his mic work was what made him legendary. When he wasn't smoking jabronis in the ring, he was killing them in promos. No one could turn a phrase or create a catchphrase out of thin air like Johnson.
