Would Larry Bird dominate the NBA today?

Larry Bird was one of the stars who helped save the NBA in the 80s with a deadly shot, high basketball IQ and ice in his veins. Many think that with his skill set, he would still be able to be an All-Star even in today's league. However, some fans believe with the overall athleticism higher now than it was in his era, Bird would have trouble dominating like he did. Some think he would just be another player today. Each generation believes theirs is the best and with the progress human beings have made from each generation, it is not surprising. However, there are a few figures from bygone eras who could cut it in the modern world. Larry Bird is one of them.

Just because he was less athletic doesn't mean he still couldn't dominate today's NBA. His shot, passing ability and high basketball IQ are transferable in any era. Combine those strengths with his clutch shooting, sky-high confidence and unwavering competitiveness, and you have a dominant NBA player in the same vein as Nikola Jokic or Luka Doncic.

People said he could compete on the national stage at Indiana State and he took them to a national championship. He came to the NBA and became one of the greatest players ever—in a league with hand-checking and hard fouls. He would be fine in today's NBA.

As good as Larry Bird was in 80s. Today's NBA is a different beast in terms of athleticism. He had trouble corraling Dominque Wilkens and Michael Jordan when they played. Today's NBA has quicker and stronger players across the board, making it more difficult for Bird to operate even with his basketball intelligence.

Bird could make adjustments, but when you have players like LeBron James, Kevin Durant and Giannis Antetokounmpo bearing down on you, there isn't much he would be able to do to stop them. And if you think he's going to get easy shots up against those defenders, you're delusional.

The Boston Celtics had his time in the 80s. To think that he would dominate today's NBA would be ludicrous.
