Worst football scandal: Mike Vick or Ray Rice?
There's no sugarcoating it—football is a game of hurt. It's a game where you can't accomplish anything without inflicting harm on someone. In football, players usually have the opportunity to fight back. Dogs aren't afforded that opportunity against their masters in dog fighting.
In collaboration with his friends, Vick ran a dogfighting ring that resulted in the death of dogs, and the mistreatment of other canines. Awful details of him drowning dogs for losing still follow him now. As a result of his conviction, Vick spent 21 months in prison. Dogs are supposed to be man's best friend. Their innocence is not supposed to be perverted into violent entertainment.
Vick should've spent more time in prison for this heinous crime.
NFL players' bodies are machines meant to destroy other NFL players. They're not meant to destroy spouses who are obviously not built to play the game. That's just cruel and unfair.
Ray Rice was suspended for two games after a domestic violence incident. However, once the video was released, things began to really unravel for the three-time Pro Bowler. The video of Rice bashing his fiancé, and dragging her out of an elevator was bad enough. While it is unclear whether executives at the NFL saw the footage, the optics of suspending Rice for only two games made matters worse.
People angrily criticized the NFL for Rice's light punishment. The controversy forced the NFL to change its policies regarding domestic abuse, and the league retroactively suspended Rice indefinitely.
