Let's be honest here. Of course Mayweather would win in a boxing match. McGregor would be in Mayweather's ring. Mayweather has five world belt tiles in five different weight classes. Does McGregor really want to ruin his streak as a champion by fighting outside of his comfort zone? This is a bad idea for McGregor.

Two-weight world champion Ricky Hatton told Business Insider
I can't believe it's going to happen, no disrespect to Conor intended. "[McGregor is a] very good for a UFC fighter. It might go a few rounds due to Conor's toughness. I think Floyd would stop him.

McGregor might be a UFC champion, but don't doubt his abilities. He would definitely beat Mayweather in a MMA fight. In a boxing match, McGregor would give Mayweather a run for his undefeated title. McGregor has fighting skills that would easily transfer to boxing. Unlike Mayweather, who is retired, McGregor is also in his prime. In a twist of events, McGregor could become a boxing champ.

According to Fox Sports, Joe Rogan explained in his podcast how McGregor could beat Mayweather.
There’s something about that dude. He’s got something going on. He’s got a little something extra special but he would need the line up.
Mayweather would have to dismiss him as a threat. He’d have to not train hard enough. He’d have to not seriously consider the possibility that Conor connects on him and knocks him out. Then Conor would have to do some rough housing. He’d have to hold him in the clinch. He’d have to hold him and hit him. He’d have to try to get off as many shots and bully him around and wear him out. It’s a possibility.

Good luck fighting Mayweather on his turf, McGregor.

Don't ever underestimate McGregor.
