Who will make the biggest impact on their new team: Sonny Gray or Yu Darvish?
What the New York Yankees want, the New York Yankees usually get. Desperately needing an ace, the Bronx Bombers acquired Sonny Gray by giving up three of their best prospects to the Oakland Athletics.
Gray has seemingly recovered from a disastrous 2016 season, notching a 3.43 ERA in 2017. With Masahiro Tanaka struggling this year, Gray should bring some stability to a team that has been winning without consistency from the starting rotation. Pitching was a focus for the Yankees during the trade deadline, and now they have a scary rotation to torture the league.
Yu Darvish has been terrorizing batters since he entered the league in 2012, and now he has a good shot at doing that in the World Series.
The Los Angeles Dodgers are the best team in baseball, and the team managed to get even better with the addition of another ace in the starting rotation. Before getting shelled for 10 earned runs in his last start, Darvish had a good 3.44 ERA and 148 strikeouts. With Clayton Kershaw out with a back injury, Darvish should help the Dodgers keep humming along.
Darvish is winless in his only two postseason starts, but with a roster that can give him more than enough run support, he may find himself winning in his first start and beyond in the postseason.
