Vince Carter and Dirk Nowitzki are still going strong after nearly 20 years in the league. As much as NBA fans want to see these warriors battle it out forever, they will have to retire at some point. Vince Carter can’t leap like he used to, and being a guard in this league means having chase around quick ball-handlerswhich can’t be easy on the knees. Dirk Nowitzki is a 7-footer whose feet and knees creak whenever he steps on the court. Who retires first? 👴 🏀

Vince Carter may be saying he doesn't plan on retiring until he turns 42 years old, but the players he has to chase around now may change his mind before that. Being guard in the NBA is taxing, to say the least. You have to deal with quick guards who can either handle the ball or run around screens for 30-plus minutes a game.

Carter is going to be put through the wringer, and tap out before Dirk Nowitzki.

You think being a guard is hard in the NBA? Try being a 7-footer who struggles to get up-and-down the court. At least, Carter's athletic ability has deteriorated to make him average. Nowitzki had very little athletic ability even when he was in his prime. There is no doubt Nowitzki can still get his shot whenever he wants, but he's two steps behind in transition and looks silly on defense. Every step looks like a struggle.
