The traditional visit to the White House used to be an honor for all championship teams, but has become a hot-button topic due to President Trump's political and personal controversies. Teams and athletes have visited the White House for decades out of respect for the office—a tradition many want to continue. However, athletes have the right to choose and skipping the visit should also be respected. What do you think? 🏀 ⚾ 🏈 🏒

You don’t have to respect the man, but you must respect the office. Receiving an invitation to the White House is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity that many will never experience. Athletes may believe in different things politically, but they should go to Washington D.C. to meet the leader of the free world.

If athletes visit President Trump, they will also have an opportunity to talk about the issues that matter to them the most directly with the president. They don’t have to treat this as just a photo op. Athletes could use it as a chance to start a real dialogue. They shouldn’t pass up this invite.

Respect for the office is one thing, but how can you respect the office when the man who represents the office alienates a significant portion of the population with his policies and brutish conversations about women? There's a point where people need to put their foot down, and put principles before a powerful individual or an office. This is the time.

It is an honor to visit the White House, but athletes have a chance to let Trump and the public know there are athletes who will stand up for what they believe in. If Trump wants a glorified photo op, he can look elsewhere.
