Which sport has the best playoffs: NBA or NHL?

Both NBA and NHL teams are fighting tooth and nail (literally) for their respective championships. However, the quality of that competition is always a topic of discussion. NBA games have been lopsided, but the high-flying action is entertaining. NHL playoff games can have little payoff in terms of scoring, but bone-crushing hits result in close games with unmatched tension. Which one do you prefer? 🏒 🏀

Yes, the NBA Playoffs have had their share of blowouts this year, but that's a credit to the superstars who have carried their respective teams and the league to new heights.

Nowhere in the NHL are you going to see an athlete like LeBron James rumble down the court fight through three players, and still end with a dunk. The Golden State Warriors are still in with their crew of three-point snipers led by Stephen Curry, and the Spurs are doing Spurs things with their beautifully consistent brand of basketballdespite changes to the roster.

But aside from the stars, the NBA playoffs have an edge to them as well. While people pine for the physical play of the '80s and '90s, this era of playoff basketball still has grit. Washington Wizards forward Kelly Oubre Jr. and Boston Celtics forward Kelly Olynyk got in a shoving match in Game 3 of their series. Houston Rockets guard Patrick Beverley got in a war of words with Russell Westbrook in their first-round series.

The NHL has had close games recently, but watching guys skate around, chopping at a rubber puck for 60 minutes is BORING no matter how close the game is. The people want leaping dunks, killer crossovers and three-point bombs. Are you not entertained?

NHL games are already intense during the regular season, but things are ramped up even more during the Stanley Cup playoffs. Everything gets turned up to 11. Everyone skates faster, hits harder, and it seems every stoppage in play results in a couple of bearded dudes getting in each other’s faces.

There is no instant gratification in the Stanley Cup playoffs. Every goal is a grind, with players scrapping their way to every score. If you score in the NBA, you’re one of 38 other goals in the game. In the NHL, you’re one of maybe three or four. Not only is that goal more valuable, the scarcity of scoring builds tension with close games that leave fans on the edge of their seat. One mistake can end a season.

The NBA playoffs can keep their superstars flopping around. The Stanley Cup playoffs will continue to be the spot where championships are earned with literal blood and sweat spilled on the ice every single night.
