What's more disappointing: 'Game of Thrones' finale or 2019 Super Bowl?
Say what you will about the Super Bowl—the Los Angeles Rams and New England Patriots actually tried to put on a good show. "Game of Thrones" actually scripted their disaster.
The creators of the HBO show had every opportunity to write, rewrite, edit and just plain try to make a better ending for one of the most popular television shows of all time. Instead, fans were given a rushed product where the storylines fell flat, and characters who were developed masterfully over the course of eight years were thrown aside like extras.
The Super Bowl may have been boring, but the "Game of Thrones" finale was far more disappointing to their rabid fans.
People complaining about the "Game of Thrones" finale have a short memory. They forgot how hyped Super Bowl 53 was and how it monstrously underdelivered.
The Rams had one of the most dangerous offenses all season with Jared Goff, Todd Gurley and Brandin Cooks lighting up teams. The Patriots had Tom Brady and the genius of Bill Belichick. But what was supposed to be fireworks turned out to be a dud.
Most offenses spent a majority of the game sputtering, taking turns providing fans with groan-inducing play. What was supposed to be a display of the best of football ended up being a cautionary tale of high expectations and disappointment.
"Game of Thrones" was bad, but the Super Bowl is still worse.
