Wayne Rooney is leaving the English Premier League and joining the MLS. According to ESPN, D.C. United is paying $16.2 million for the aging legend to move across the pond. Many feel that it is a steep price to pay for a player who is way past his prime. Others feel his presence will draw more fans to the league, making the deal worth every penny. What do you think? ⚽

There is a reason MLS is criticized as a retirement league by some soccer fans. They keep going after aging stars that aren't in legendary form to make short-term financial gains instead of investing in the future. The league could actually spend money on young, hungry talent in other parts of the world and build its brand in a more sustainable fashion. This was a horrible move for MLS.

MLS is struggling to gain any respectability, often forgotten in the conversation of the best soccer leagues in the world. The league needs names to up its q-rating and drive more fan interest. Even fans who don't follow soccer know who Rooney is and what he brings to the table. His presence in the league will drive more revenue so it can survive and thrive. This is a good move for the MLS.
