US Soccer gives goalkeeper Hope Solo six-month suspension. Did she deserve it?
Solo has had other past controversies, and some think this harsh penalty was more about her past skirmishes than her comment about the Swedes.
Hope Solo didn't get suspended for calling Sweden cowards she was suspended for being a violent bully who has gotten 1000 passes.— BlackSportsOnline (@BSO) August 25, 2016
Solo's defenders say it's wrong that she was suspended for making a comment (and a rather innocuous one at that). They question whether a male player would've received the same penalty. Solo is appealing the decision.
But NBC Sports pointed out that this suspension was about Solo's past behavior, and said her "cowards" comment was just the last straw.
