Umpire Bob Davidson threw a heckler out of a Phillies game. Did he do the right thing?

Umpire Bob Davidson made headlines Tuesday when he tossed a fan from the stands in the sixth inning of the Phillies game with the San Francisco Giants. Sportswriter Peter Botte asked "Is it a bad precedent for umpires to take it upon themselves to eject unruly fans? Of course it is. That is not their job." But the audience cheered Davidson's actions, "which is unusual in this town for me,"  the umpire joked.
