It wasn't enough that Bill O'Brien traded one of the teams best players, but now he has a PR battle on his hands after Michael Irvin revealed a conversation where the Texans head coach compared Hopkins to Aaron Hernandez and criticized him from bringing the mothers of his children around the team. Many think he overstepped his boundaries by commenting on Hopkins' family and that could affect the relationship he has with the rest of the team. How can a Houston player fight for a coach who doesn't respect his family?
Oh, and we haven't even gotten to trade yet. We're talking about one of the most elite receivers in the league and he couldn't get a first-round pick out of it. This is a bad trade and everyone is killing the Texans because of it.
This isn't someone you want representing your organization. He needs to be fired.
People criticizing Bill O'Brien for trading Hopkins are ignorant of the tough position he was actually in. Hopkins is very talented, but he was asking for more money than the Texans could have afforded. He needed to get a return for Hopkins and he got a second-round draft pick, a fourth-round draft pick and running back David Johnson. It's not the best return, but they got something for him despite not having a ton of leverage.
That Michael Irvin story was sensational, but ultimately nothing. Even Hopkins said it was overblown. O'Brien should be given a chance to prove his moves made the team better. He shouldn't lose his job.
