Steph Curry and other celebs drop out of Rio Olympics. Should more stars follow? | The Tylt
Two-time NBA MVP Steph Curry was interested in joining the Rio Olympics. But then ... he backed out — citing his recent knee and ankle injuries.
"However, due to several factors — including recent ankle and knee injuries — I believe this is the best decision for me at this stage of my career. It's an incredible honor to represent your country and wear 'USA' on your chest, but my primary basketball-related objective this summer needs to focus on my body and getting ready for the 2016-17 NBA season."
Although some fans are upset, others feel like he made the right decision. Critics believe the Zika virus is another reason why Curry and other celebrities should skip the Rio Olympics. And there are celebrities and athletes dropping out due to the fear of spreading Zika to their families (or even countries).
Should celebs and athletes actually skip the Rio Olympics? Or should folks stop overreacting?
Some sports fans are disappointed. They were looking forward to Curry's participation. Others don't seem to be worried about Rio's issues; they have been promoting other athletes to attend.
Many feel Rio simply isn't ready for the Olympics — facing issues like crime, polluted water and transportation woes. Some say this is an overreaction to Rio's problems. Many cities that have hosted the Olympics had issues at the time. Others pointed out that the military will be handling the Zika virus and there'll be security to prevent any other issues.
What do you think: #SkipRioOlympics or #GoToRioOlympics?
