Ending the prohibition on sports betting can only help stave off some of its most repellent side effects. Legal gambling opens up new revenue streams for cities and states, and gives the government a chance to regulate the industry safely.

Illegal gambling is a dangerous activity, with debts being used as justification for violence and leverage to coerce individuals to participate in other illegal activity. Bringing sports betting into the spotlight will give people a chance to take part without having to worry about bodily harm. It needs to be legalized.

Gambling is not some passive activity. People get hooked on the feeling and continue betting beyond their means. This puts family members in danger when gambling addicts sell houses, cars and anything else to fund their problem.

Legalizing sports betting would only give addicts more options to feed their addiction. Gambling will also tempt athletes to tip the scale in one way or another, especially if it benefits them. There is too much on the line to allow sports betting to be legal. The Supreme Court needs to shut it down.
