The Special Olympics unites the world in celebration of disabled athletes overcoming impossible odds to represent their respective countries, but it seems the United States government doesn't want to be part of it. Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos proposed budget cuts nearly $18 million in funding to the Special Olympics—about as much as six Mar-a-Lago trips the President of the United States loves so much. She defended the cuts saying philanthropic organizations can make up the difference. Others think the money is well spent on the Special Olympics, which helps the disabled find confidence and inspires everyone. What do you think?

Where better to throw taxpayer money at then our President's vacations in Florida? He REALLY needs the downtime from an incredibly stressful job.

Every trip to Mar-a-Lago costs the public around $3.4 million dollars, but for the president, it's worth every penny. Donald Trump needs a place to relax after slowly responding to shootings, responding to satire on a sketch television show and tossing paper towels to a United States territory ravaged by a hurricane. It's exhausting!

There's no reason to fund the Special Olympics when the President's relaxation is so pivotal our national wellbeing. That's why he has spent 91 days at Mar-a-Lago in his first 796 days in office. The Special Olympics can get its own funding from donations and foundations. Vacations to Mar-a-Lago are a national priority!

Seriously, though. Taking money away from the Special Olympics has to rank up there in the pure evil scale with separating children from their parents and banning an entire religion from traveling to your country. These are human beings who have found themselves competing in sports, finding confidence and inspiring everyone with their stories, and the government doesn't want to support that? What is wrong with them?!

You'll be hard pressed to find a dry eye when an athlete leaps for joy for not only winning, but also achieving their personal best. And no matter what country you're from, everyone roots for another no matter how engrossed in the competition they are. The strength, grace and kindness these athletes show is an example for the world, and the United States failing to throw their support behind it is appalling.

The Special Olympics aren't just limited to their annual event either. This is an organization that served 4.9 million athletes in the world this year and provided 2.1 million free health screenings since the program's inception in 2012.

This is an organization worth giving $18 million dollars to, especially when the government's budget is projected to be a record $4.746 trillion. The U.S. Government needs to support the Special Olympics.
