Who was the better pick for Sixers general manager: Elton Brand or Sam Hinkie?
After an NBA career where he made two All-Star appearances and averaged over 15 points a game, Brand went to the business side of basketball, named a player development consultant to the Philadelphia 76ers and then general manager of the Delaware Blue Coats, the Sixers G League affiliate. Now, Brand is the GM of the 76ers. But should Sam Hinkie have been offered the position instead?
Hinkie might have built the Sixers into what it is today, but his time is up. A younger voice who knows how chemistry is built first-hand is needed. That's why Brand was given the job.
Brand was a good leader as a player and he will bring the knowledge he gained through 17 seasons to the job. The Sixers hired the right guy.
How can the Sixers not bring back the guy who actually built the team?! Without Hinkie's foresight and asset hoarding, the Sixers wouldn't have gotten Dario Saric or Joel Embiid. Those are two franchise cornerstones Hinkie was responsible for. It would have been cathartic to see Hinkie return to the team he improved after his plan came to fruition.
