Is Ben Simmons worth $170 million?

The Philadelphia 76ers didn't let Ben Simmons even think about free agency in 2020, signing him to a max extension worth $170 million over five years. After averaging 16.4 points, 8.5 rebounds and 7.7 assists his first two years in the league, many feel the contract is well worth the investment. Still, Simmons has shown little improvement on his jump shot, and some feel his athleticism doesn't warrant this kind of money just yet. What do you think? 🏀

The fact that Ben Simmons has been as dominant as he has without a jump shot shows his value as a player. Simmons is undeniably one of the best in the league and he deserves a max contract.

Even with defenses daring him to shoot, Simmons still manages to get to the basketball at will, averaging 16.4 points per game on 56.3 percent shooting. More importantly, Simmons has unreal vision and can find open teammates, keeping the ball moving to shooters and finding cutters.

People criticize Simmons for not having a jumper, but he brings so much to the table elsewhere. Simmons is also only 23 years old, which gives him plenty of time to work on that jump shot.

He's definitely worth the money.

Love it or hate it, the NBA has put more emphasis on jump shooting in recent years. Simmons' jumper is like a broken clock; he'll hit it twice a game, but that's about it. That is not worth $170 million.

According to Basketball Reference, Simmons shoots 7.7 percent on field goals from 10-16 feet and two percent on shots from 16 feet to the three-point range. That is horrific for any player, let alone one getting a max contract. Simmons doesn't even make the Sixers that much better as a team. When he was on the court, the team had an offensive rating of 112.9. When he was off the court, the team's offensive rating was 112.6. Philadelphia even had a better defensive rating when he was off the court, giving up nearly two fewer points per 100 possessions to opponents.

Simmons is a good player, but he shouldn't be getting max money.
