Should Tim Tebow be called up to the New York Mets? | The Tylt
Tim Tebow celebrated his 30th birthday this month, and his success in Advanced-A ball has many pundits predicting an MLB appearance in the near future for the former Florida Gator quarterback. As a business move, it makes sense because he generates a lot of attention and ticket sales. However, his performance has been objectively bad, and not even the Mets deserve the media circus that would inevitably follow. What do you think? ⚾
Should Tim Tebow be called up to the New York Mets?
Like him or not, Tim Tebow is going to be an MLB player by the end of the regular season. The Mets have nothing else to play for this season. With a starting pitching rotation in shambles, Citi Field is going to be a venue of many sound defeats. The Mets need something to drive fans to games, and Tim Tebow gives the team a walking promotion every time he steps on the field.
Fans love him. People love to hate him. Tickets sales will increase, and jerseys will fly off the shelves for what will be another lost season for the Mets. As a business decision, it’s a no-brainer. That’s all that matters.
The Mets are terrible so Tim Tebow is 100% gonna get called up to the majors to sell tickets in September.— Steve Schreiber (@sschreiber13) June 25, 2017
Tebow has made a mockery of baseball. No one should care if he is a walking money bag. His presence in baseball ends in the minor leagues, not in the hallowed stadiums of MLB.
Let’s just tell it like it is—Tebow sucks. People who suck at baseball should not play professional baseball. This has been normal practice in MLB since the beginning. The Mets would be admitting the team prefers money over fielding a good baseball product. Calling Tebow up to boost ticket sales makes the team look bad and the professional baseball even worse.
If the Mets allow Tebow to step on a professional baseball field, the team will get Tebow fans, but it will also get hecklers, biased media attention and other distractions that deter from baseball. Tebow is a sideshow. He does not deserve to be in the Show.
