Should MLB repeal the 'slide rule'?

Is this an era where tee-ball players are in the MLB?

This is professional baseball! A game that is played hard and fast. Sliding to prevent a double has been a part of the game since its inception, and should continue to be.

The rule has it stands now leaves too much to be interpreted. The Happ slide this weekend didn’t appear to have malicious intent, and he was still called out. So even though you appear to hold on, stay online with the bag and hit the dirt before the bag, you can still be penalized? That’s not right.

Player safety is important, but so is keeping the tradition of the game and its toughness alive. This rule needs to be removed.

We need to make the game safer, and this slide rule is just next evolution of the game. Two years ago, home plate collisions were made illegal, and no catcher since has had a major injury at the plate. The slide rule will be just as successful in preventing star players from getting hurt.

Baseball cannot continue to be in the dark ages. It needs to change with the times. With athletes becoming bigger, stronger and faster, the MLB can’t trust the players to police themselves all the time. The slide rule averts players from taking dirty slides. And while we don’t get the acrobatic double plays, athletes are staying healthy.

The MLB got it right when they passed this rule last year. The league should continue to prioritize player safety.
