Should Lionel Messi leave FC Barcelona?
Coach magazine yanked a fake interview of Messi stating he would stay in Barcelona "for as long as they want me." The small publication replaced the false interview with:
It has come to our attention that the authenticity of this interview has been questioned. We have removed the interview while we investigate.
Regardless of the fake interview and continued speculation that he's leaving—should Messi actually stay?
Back in November, FC Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu said Messi would never leave Barcelona. He would retire with the club. ESPN writer Samuel Marsden and fans argue that Barcelona is Messi's home. Barcelona and Messi need each other.
Marsden reported what footballer Javier Mascherano had to say on the matter:
"I have no doubt that both Messi and the club need each other," the defender told reporters after Barca's 5-0 win against Las Palmas."The relationship between both parties has been really good up until now. I hope that, in terms of elite football, Messi plays here forever. There's no better place for him, although it's a matter which must be dealt with in private by Barcelona."
But Messi is a soccer legend, and some experts say he should consider all of his options. Manchester City F.C. has received the most speculation as a possible landing spot for Messi.
Messi will most likely go down as the greatest player of all time. He could never kick a ball again and still be considered the most gifted player to have ever played the game. But nonetheless, his legend could be boosted even further by succeeding with another team in another country.
