Colin Kaepernick has a serious image problem right now, and it's scaring a lot of teams away. As much as we don't want to admit it, looks play a big part in getting a job. Kaepernick has so many things working against him right now. Getting a hair cut is the least he can do to increase his chances of getting an NFL job.
Michael Vick was speaking from experience when he was saying your public image is important. Vick somehow made people forget he went to jail for killing dogs by presenting a clean image, and not rocking the boat.
If Kaepernick wants to stay in the NFL he should heed Vick's advice.
First of all, Michael Vick, a man who drowned dogs, is in no position to be giving advice to anyone. Second, way to have a brother's back. Colin Kaepernick is trying to bring to light the struggles of Black men in America—like negative perceptions based on their looks. The last thing he needs is for someone to perpetuate that view by targeting his hair, especially by a Black man.
Kaepernick succumbing to pressure, and cutting his hair would be a concession of most of the issues he has brought to light with his protest. He would be appeasing the owners and executives who believe rocking corn rows or an afro is the antithesis of professionalism—a view that could not be further from the truth. Kaepernick needs to show the NFL that being a good person or professional does not hinge on a certain look.
Keep the hair, and continue fighting the power, Kaep.
