Should Olympian Adam Rippon meet with Mike Pence?

U.S. figure skater Adam Rippon reportedly refused an invitation to speak with Vice President Mike Pence before the Olympics after Rippon blasted Pence's actions toward the LGBT community.  Even though he is finished with the Olympics, meeting with Pence would accomplish nothing since the vice president isn't interested in changing his mind. Still, many believe that in order to pursue change, an open dialogue needs to start somewhere. What do you think? ⛸

Vice President Mike Pence's stance on LGBT rights have been well documented and criticized thoroughly by the LGBT community and its allies. He ascended to one of the top offices of the United States government because of the positions, so why would he change his opinion now?

Having an open conversation accomplishes nothing if Pence is unwilling to change his mind. This is just a photo opportunity to make Pence look good. Rippon shouldn't give Pence the satisfaction of using him to appear tolerant.

Even when Mike Pence wants to reach out and have an honest conversation, he gets bashed. And people wonder why things never change.

Rippon's refusal does nothing to help his cause. In order to make change happen, Rippon can't run away from having an open dialogue with one of the most powerful men in the United States.

If Rippon refuses to meet with Pence, it's not only a missed opportunity to improve the LGBT community, it's also a loss for the idea that having productive conversations can actually help improve our country. Rippon needs to meet with Pence.
