Did the NFL betray its fans by dumping Papa John's for Pizza Hut?

Papa John's and NFL mutually ended their partnership after a turbulent year. Former Papa John's CEO John Schnatter made headlines by saying the pizza chain's slumping sales were due to player protests during the national anthem. Many fans agreed with Schnatter, criticizing the players for their protest. Papa John's was the only NFL partner that was brave enough to be vocal about the disrespectful player protests in 2017. The company was just echoing the criticisms of most NFL fans who have turned away the league because they don't want politics injected into their sports.

Papa John's wanted the protests to stop, like a lot of people watching the game. The NFL proved once again it is willing to ignore its fans—a betrayal that will not go unpunished.

Papa John's is objectively a trash pizza joint. The NFL did itself a favor by separating itself from a company whose stock is tanking.

The league made a safe move, partnering with a chain that hasn't made the mistake of being political. With the NFL priding itself on not rocking the boat, a partnership with Pizza Hut is a match made in heaven.
