Time and time again, the players in the league prove they aren't ready for players who are openly LGBTQ+. Football is looked at as a hypermasculine sport and there is no room more any variation of what masculine is except chugging beers, breaking things and hitting spouses.

Russell may have played in the NFL before he came out, but he and the NFL players who have not come out aren't safe in that toxic environment. If he has homophobic teammates, they won't have his back and that is no place to be.

It isn't safe for openly LGBTQ+ players to be in the NFL.

It's 2019. Nobody cares about your sexual orientation in the NFL. All teams care about is if you can play football or not.

You can be open about your preferences but broadcasting it isn't ideal. That's no one's business other than you and the person you are involved with.

The league is safe for openly LGBTQ+ players.
