Does Julio Jones really deserve a new contract?

Atlanta Falcons wideout Julio Jones is reportedly going to sit out all of training camp until his contract is restructured. Some fans are calling him selfish for leaving the team high and dry. People want him to play the contract he signed—y'know, the one that made him the highest paid wide receiver in the league. But other fans are siding with Jones, saying players need to demand more money when they outperform their contracts. Teams drop players at the drop of a hat. What do you think? 🏈

NFL players are always in a state of working for a contract. Teams have no problem releasing a player after a bad year, cutting contracts and significant money short. Jones has been one of the best wide receivers in the league the last three years. There is only a short amount of time for Jones to capitalize on his unequaled talent.

Everyone wants to be paid what they feel they're worth. Jones just has enough leverage to do it. He's earned a raise. Give it to him, Atlanta.

Julio Jones once said that he wouldn't put the Hawks through a "selfish" holdout in 2015. Three years later and what is he doing? Selfishly holding out.

Jones shouldn't have signed a six-year deal making him the highest paid wide receiver if he wasn't planning on honoring it. Jones has always been known as a team player. He should earn that reputation and attend training camp like he's supposed to.
