Ed Hochuli's best quality: His arms or his long explanations?

Longtime NFL referee Ed Hochuli has decided to hang up the whistle, retiring after 25 years of service to the league. Hochuli was one of the more iconic referees for his arms that made him look more like a player than referee and he will be missed by many. Still, many others love him for his longwinded explanations and his level of detail with calls. What do you think? 🏈

When you think of Ed Hochuli, you don't think about the postseason games he's called. It's all about the guns.

With every point or gesture, fans are treated to a display of flexed perfection. Hochuli wore short sleeves because he knew what the people wanted when they went to a game he was working: the gun show. Sure, he talked a lot, but his arms did a lot of the talking after the game. Hochuli's arms will be missed way more than his words.

No referee took greater care in explaining the rules than Hochuli. The man is a lawyer when he's not patrolling the field, and he approaches each penalty like he is talking to a judge. It may have slowed down some games, but at least fans knew the logic of why he made the call. He endeared himself to millions watching on television and the players on the field. Now, fans are only going to get vague statements that'll leave them with raised eyebrows in confusion. We'll miss you, Ed.
