Who's going to finish higher in the AP Poll: Duke or North Carolina?
Vernon Carey Jr. leads another impressive Duke class that features five players in ESPN's Class of 2019 top-40 recruits. People have seen what head coach Mike Krzyzewski has done with a top recruiting class in the past, and not even the mighty North Carolina Tar Heels can stand in their way.
The Tar Heels might have caught the Blue Devils last year when Zion Williamson went down, but they were unable to stop Duke when the team was fully healthy. With players like Matthew Hurt, Wendell Moore, Cassius Stanley and Rejean Ellis helping Carey shoulder the load, there is no way one injury will derail the team. The Blue Devils have too much talent and high-level coaching to finish below North Carolina.
People act like North Carolina is going to be a team full of bums in 2019. The Tar Heels nabbed the best point guard in the Class of 2019 and have plenty of firepower to compete with Duke, who doesn't have that superhuman named Zion Williamson anymore.
Cole Anthony averaged a triple-double his senior year of high school and is showing superstar potential with his incredible athleticism, scoring touch and willingness to share the ball. As Duke knows, one player can dominate and cover up a lot of weaknesses. Anthony might be that player.
Vernon Carey Jr. might be a talented player, but North Carolina has their own talented freshman big man who can body him up. Armando Bacot is rated as the 17th best player in the Class of 2019 and has the size and agility to stay in front of Carey.
Duke might have the best recruiting class, but North Carolina has more than enough talent to beat them and finish higher in the AP Poll.
