San Antonio Spurs assistant coach Becky Hammon is in the interview process to be the next head coach of the Milwaukee Bucks. With her and Jenny Boucek filling assistant coaching positions in the NBA, it seems like an inevitability that a woman will be a head coach in the league. The NBA is one of the most progressive leagues in the country—a woman will be welcome. Still, others feel all the masculine egos in the NBA isn't ready for such a dramatic change. Is the NBA ready? 🏀

The NBA has separated itself from the rest of the professional leagues in the country by encouraging its players to take stands on issues that matter to them. There is no way they would reject being the first professional men's league with a female head coach. Hammon already proved she could lead men by winning the NBA Summer League Championship in 2015 as a coach.

Here is LeBron James with his thoughts as reported by USA Today:

If you know the game, you're always accepted. If you don't know the game, it's all about your knowledge of the game. It shouldn't matter if you're a male or a female.

No matter how progressive NBA players are on other social issues, they are still professional athletes with egos to match. According to the Washington Post, Mike Francesa didn't back down after saying women couldn't handle being head coaches and he's just a radio jockey. Imagine what NBA players who get paid millions of dollars think.

Not everyone is as forward thinking has LeBron James or Gregg Popovich. There is no doubt women like Becky Hammon know the game, but to say the men of the NBA are ready to have her lead them is a stretch.
