Both NBA and NHL teams are fighting tooth and nail for their respective championships. However, the quality of that competition is always a topic of discussion. NBA games can be lopsided, but the high-flying action is entertaining. NHL playoff games might have little payoff in terms of scoring, but bone-crushing hits result in close games with unmatched tension. Which one do you prefer? 🏒 🏀

Nowhere in the NHL are you going to see an athlete like LeBron James rumble down the court, fighting through three players, and still end with a dunk. There are stars galore across both divisions, battling for a single title.

But aside from the headliners, the NBA playoffs have an edge to them as well. While people pine for the physical play of the '80s and '90s, this era of playoff basketball still has grit. Tempers flare especially when you're facing off against an opponent at least four games in a row with so much on the line. Players are willing to claw, elbow and bum their way to win.

The NHL has had close games, but watching guys skate around, chopping at a rubber puck for 60 minutes is BORING no matter how close the game is. The people want leaping dunks, killer crossovers, and three-point bombs. Are you not entertained?

Here are just a few examples from last year:

NHL games are already intense during the regular season, but things are ramped up even more during the Stanley Cup playoffs. Everything gets turned up to 11. Everyone skates faster and hits harder. It also seems every stoppage in play ends up resulting in a couple of bearded dudes getting in each other’s faces.

There is no instant gratification in the Stanley Cup playoffs. Every goal is a grind, with players scrapping their way to every score. If you score in the NBA, you’re one of 38 other goals in the game. In the NHL, you’re one of maybe three or four. Not only is that goal more valuable, the scarcity of scoring builds tension with close games that leave fans on the edge of their seat. One mistake can end a season.

The NBA playoffs can keep their superstars flopping around. The Stanley Cup playoffs will continue to be the spot where championships are earned with literal blood and sweat spilled on the ice every single night. Here is last year's bloodbath to show how great the Stanley Cup Playoffs are.
