Los Angeles Lakers legend Kobe Bryant was honored with a jersey retirement ceremony, celebrating his successful 20-year run in the NBA with the franchise. While he certainly has the numbers to warrant admiration, he is deified by his fans as the greatest player ever to step foot on the court. Critics say while Bryant was great, he was an inefficient scorer whose clutch reputation is often overblown. Still, those five rings speak for themselves and those numbers don't lie. What do you think? 🏀

Bryant is an all-time tireless worker and intense competitor. He is one of the greatest of all time, but for some people to say he belongs in the same sentence as Michael Jordan, Magic Johnson, Larry Bird or even Tim Duncan is ridiculous. A lot has been made of his late-game heroics when he really only shot less than 30 percent from the field in clutch situations. His shooting percentages aren't eye-popping neither, putting up a 45/33/83 slash line that's good, but not great.

Bryant has always had great players around him that let him operate the way he wants to operate. To call him the greatest or among the top of the top talents to ever play is a stretch.

33,643 points, 20 years in the NBA, five championships, countless moments of grit and determination: yeah, totally overrated. People who say Bryant is overrated don't know basketball. Numbers are just part of the story, you have look past that to get Kobe's true worth. He carried the torch of maniac competitors like Bird, Jordan, and Magic, terrorizing opponents and teammates alike with his basketball obsession. He gave the league a character that fans either loved or loved to hate, driving up audience numbers to see what he would accomplish next.

He is the star that today's NBA stars looked up tofor his preparation, mentality and unquestionable love for the game. His impact and legend will live longer than he ever will.
