Should the Confederate flag be banned at NASCAR events?

NASCAR made a bold statement by banning the Confederate flag from all events moving forward. With the national conversation around race centered around change, some want the Confederate flag, a symbol of slavery and racism to many, banned from racetracks. Others don't think that's something NASCAR should regulate. What do you think? 🚗

People can talk about heritage all they want, but the Confederate flag will always represent traitors and racists. That's the reality of the polarizing emblem.

Confederates defended the right to own human beings under that flag. They defended the horrific mistreatment of human beings under that flag. They died for the ideology that Black people were three-fifths of a human under that flag. That is not something anyone should want to be associated with.

If NASCAR wants to "do better" on racial issues, banning the Confederate flag is just the start.

While the Confederate flag is an unwelcoming symbol for many people, it's not NASCAR's responsibility to regulate something that is outside the scope of racing. Even if it recognizes that the banner is disrespectful, banning the flag outright alienates a lot of fans who have built the sport up.

Here is NASCAR racer Brad Keselowski:

I recognize that that flag might mean something different to different people, but it doesn't mean United States of America to me. But I'm not gonna tell people they need to get rid of it. That's not my right either. But I certainly don't salute it or respect it or probably anyone else who feels the same way. But, at the end of the day, it's not our call.
