Should female athletes be allowed to wear hijabs in sports?

Hijabs have become more popular as more Muslim women have taken part in athletics. Modest wear has become a hot topic especially with hijabs in sports. Many feel that creating products accommodating hijabs normalizes the oppression of women, some of whom are forced to wear hijabs against their will. Others argue that making athletic hijabs makes sports more inclusive to everyone and improves access to athletics for Muslim women. What do you think?

Hijabs are a symbol of oppression for many in the Muslim community. Forcing a woman to dress "modestly" is not the message you want to promote. Yet, Nike and other clothing manufacturers want to create products that let oppression to continue.

People should be allowed to dress how they see fit. They shouldn't have to adhere to an arbitrary standard of modesty. Athletic hijabs might bring more Muslim women to sports, but it only allows their oppression to be normalized and monetized. Athletic apparel companies are a part of the problem if they continue to sell so-called modest wear.

Hijabs are part of a tradition in Islam, but for many Muslim women, it is a choice they freely make. That choice can limit them to what activities they choose to take part in.

Companies making modest wear like hijabs gives Muslim women access to sports and allows them to live a healthy, active lifestyle. No longer do they have to choose between their religion and living a full life. People shouldn't discourage Muslim women because they chose to wear a hijab. Athletic companies are giving them the chance to chase their dreams while also upholding their beliefs. There's nothing bad about that.
