Dusty Baker may not have gotten the Nationals out of the Division Series during his tenure, but he did a lot to make this team a winner. He nearly won 200 regular season games in his two years with Washington, and he guided the team to wins without Bryce Harper or Trea Turner for stretches in 2017. Given one more year, Baker would have made this team better, and kept the stability that allowed the team to win consistently. He deserves better than being fired.
Matt Williams was awful and toxic, yet the Lerners kept him on longer than he deserved. Dusty Baker fixed the Nats clubhouse. Shame on them.
When it comes to baseball, it's all about what you do in the playoffs that determines your legacy. Baker had really good regular seasons with the team, but he was never able to get the Nationals over the Division Series hump. He made some questionable calls this year, pulling Scherzer after giving up one hit, trotting him out just two games later in relief and making poor defensive decisions.
