What can you say about a team that has been at best in the bottom two in attendance the last eight seasons and is on track for a ninth despite having a winning baseball team? Tampa Bay has proven they don't want the Rays and if that's the case, the team should just move to Montreal where they have been lobbying for a return of the Expos.
In a survey run by the Forum Poll, a majority of Quebecers would welcome the team back. They have let the team die before, but they have seen the light and will support the team whereas Tampa Bay has shown little interest since 2011.
Just move the team to Montreal.
It's pretty rich that outsiders have an opinion about Tampa Bay sports when they don't look past the numbers. For starters, the Rays actually play in St. Petersburg, where there are only a few ways to get in or out. No one wants to fight that traffic to get to the game which is why you see low attendance numbers. If the team actually got a new stadium in actual Tampa, there would be a lot more people at games just because of greater accessibility alone.
While the attendance numbers are bleak, the team still enjoys strong local television ratings, strong enough to secure a $1.23 billion TV deal. And while Montreal wants the Expos back, the Forum Poll showed a majority are reticent to attend games or want to the government to fund the team.
Baseball failed in Montreal before, while the Rays are succeeding under the radar despite attendance numbers that are affected by a less an ideal location. The team should stay in Florida.
