Should MLB commissioner Rob Manfred be fired?

MLB commissioner Rob Manfred has had a rough winter. Not only has he had to deal with the Houston Astros cheating their way to a World Series championship, but he has also dealt with backlash from players and teams that his punishment wasn't enough. Many fans think he should resign or be fired for his lack of significant action. Others feel like he still has a chance to redeem himself by stripping the Astros' championship title. Rob Manfred is supposed to protect the baseball's integrity, but when faced with a situation where he could really set an example, he flinched with everyone's eyes on him. He used "lack of precedent" as an excuse not to strip the Astros title. Only cowards afraid of making real change use that excuse.

Not only did he fade on his responsibility, he called the World Series trophy—the most coveted trophy in the sport—a piece of metal. Anyone willing to diminish the value of something that important doesn't deserve to be a caretaker of the game.

There is no way Rob Manfred sees all of the criticism and doesn't reverse course. If he is fired now, he has no chance to make things right.

The MLB commissioner has not had a great track record since he took over in 2015, but he can help his image and the image of the league if he recognizes his mistake and strips the Astros of their World Series. He can't do that if he's fired.
