Does convicted sex offender Luke Heimlich deserve a shot at MLB?

Oregon State star pitcher Luke Heimlich lost his College Baseball World Series start but is still being considered by the Kansas City Royals for an MLB roster spot. According to The Oregonian, Major League Baseball's 44th best prospect was convicted of molesting his six-year-old niece when he was just 15 years old. Heimlich is now saying he was given bad legal advice and never committed the crime. Still, many feel he should never touch a baseball diamond as a professional. What do you think? ⚾

Facing trial isn't a walk in the park, especially when a family is involved. In Heimlich's case, it would have put his niece on the stand where she would have been in the spotlight. He told The New York Times he pled guilty so his family wouldn't have to go through that.

Heimlich paid for his admission of guilt, even though he may not have been guilty at all. He is adamant nothing happened. He went through counseling and has been registered on the sex offenders list for five years. Kansas City and other MLB teams are right to give him at least a shot at living his dream. Everyone deserves a second chance.

If someone was accused of molesting a six-year-old and they were innocent, you would think that person would shout from the rooftops they didn't do it. Heimlich didn't do that. He admitted guilt.

A person who is convicted of molesting a child should not have the privilege of playing a sport and making millions of dollars from it. He might play the game "the right way," but he couldn't be a human the right way first. MLB teams should avoid this monster like the plague.
