Is Nintendo's 'Punch-Out!!' garbage without Mike Tyson?
Mike Tyson was clearly unhappy that he was left out of "Punch-Out!!" It's uncertain if he's referencing a new, yet-to-be-announced game, but we are pretty sure he's just talking about the addition of "Punch-Out!!" to the Switch's Nintendo Online library. But if Nintendo is really releasing the classic game without one of the most notorious bosses in video game history, is it even worth getting?
HOW CAN YOU HAVE AN ICONIC GAME WITHOUT THE BOSS WHO MADE IT ICONIC?!
"Punch-Out!!" without Tyson is pointless. The whole appeal of the game was the pain of running through the gauntlet of boxers, only to run into one of the greatest champions that boxing has ever seen, getting summarily wrecked, and then having to start all the way at the beginning.
There is no cult following without Tyson and his near-impossible-to-defeat video game doppelganger that made the game so popular. "Punch-Out!" is nothing without them.
People seem to be forgetting that Tyson made his bed a long time ago.
After a slew of violent behavior and arrests, Iron Mike is toxic for a family-friendly company like Nintendo. No one wants to be associated with him. If Tyson wanted to still be included in the game, he should focus on being a better person.
Since Nintendo and Tyson are no longer in business together, the video game company is in no way obligated to include him. He might be a better member of society, but he doesn't need to be in "Punch-Out!!" Tyson wasn't even the first champion of the video game series! That honor belongs to Mr. Sandman.
Tyson is an icon, but he doesn't need to be included in the game to make it great.
