Does LaVar Ball owe President Trump any gratitude?
President Trump is not one to pass on an opportunity to defend himself. Trump lashed out at LaVar Ball for saying he didn't do much to get his son out of China. Congratulations, Commander-in-Chief. You took the bait, and now you look like a sensitive baby. Critics were offended for the president's audacity to say he should have left an American citizen to rot in a foreign country. How presidential.
Being President is a thankless job. If Trump wanted a pat on the back for doing his job, he should have stuck to being a businessman where everyone sucked up to him. That's not the way the public office works. Serving the people is supposed to be his duty, not a job of constant praise. Every president before Trump knew that. He should too.
LiAngelo Ball was facing multiple years—maybe even a decade—of jail time, but Trump swopped in and helped him out. But LaVar can't take three seconds to acknowledge the President helped at all? Many feel that's incredibly disrespectful. Trump didn't leave the UCLA basketball player in China to defend himself. China is in a foreign court that arguably would've shown no mercy to an American ballplayer..
People don't have to like Trump, but when he does something nice, it would be good if someone acknowledged it. He gets plenty of grief over other things, but give credit where credit is due. Ball should respect the president, and show a little more appreciation.
