Was Kobe Bryant better than LeBron James? | The Tylt
Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James was serenaded by Atlanta Hawks fans with a chant proclaiming Kobe Bryant is still superior to the King. With LeBron James playing inconsistently, despite his legendary reputation, those fans might have a point. Still, James is on pace to break a lot of Bryant's career numbers and is still playing at an MVP-level at 36 years old. Bryant never did that. What do you think? 🏀
Was Kobe Bryant better than LeBron James?
LeBron James might be more athletically gifted, but he doesn't have the psychotic competitiveness and heart the Black Mamba had.
Players love to say that basketball is their life. Bryant might be the only guy who really meant it. Putting endless hours into his skills and studying his opponent's weaknesses so he wouldn't be unprepared for a game.
No player maximized his ability like Bryant. He dissected the opposition on the court by breaking down tape, trying new recovery techniques, and continually adding to his already unguardable game.
If an opponent had a counter for him, Bryant would already have an answer. At the time of his retirement, he had the third-most career points in league history. You might beat the Mamba, but he would never stop fighting—unlike LeBron, James who doesn't have that killer gene that Vino had. There was no other player who could match his work ethic or intensity, not even James.
No one may be more athletically gifted than the kid from Akron.
James is built like a power forward, moves like a shooting guard and has the court vision of a point guard. LeBron James barrelling down on the break puts the fear of God into players. He's either going to find the open man, go around you or go through you.
He already has the highest career Value Over Replacement Player in NBA history, according to Basketball Reference, and he's still going strong. When it comes to basketball IQ, no one compares to the King. Kobe Bryant doesn't come close to what LeBron James has done in a shorter period of time.
