Who rules L.A. basketball: LeBron James or Kawhi Leonard?
Kawhi Leonard might be the new kid on the block, but LeBron James still rules it. James is one of the most famous athletes in the world and there is no one that can knock him off the top in any city he inhabits.
James has the Lakers at the top of the Western Conference and 4.5 games ahead of Leonard's Clippers as of January 9. He leads the NBA in assists and sits in the top-10 for win shares per 48 minutes (Kawhi doesn't even break the top 20).
The 4x NBA MVP is also dependable. Leonard has been "load managing" a majority of the season while James has been grinding out games if he's healthy enough to play.
If you come at the King, you best not miss and Kawhi Leonard hasn't missed that many times. Leonard holds a 15-8 record against LeBron James, including a 7-5 record in playoffs. The Clippers star has dethroned James more often than not, making Los Angeles his city.
Leonard has the numbers that matter: head-to-head wins. James can fill stats all he wants, but it won't matter much if he can't make it past Leonard. The Clippers are 2-0 against the Lakers as of January 9.
You can't rule a city if you can't win against a rival within it. Los Angeles belongs to Kawhi Leonard.
