Who won the Isaiah Thomas trade: Lakers or Cavaliers?
Jordan Clarkson and Larry Nance Jr. will be missed, but man did the Lakers finesse the Cavs. Los Angeles cleared more cap space, giving them two max slots for the 2018 free agency period (*cough* Lebron James and Paul George *cough*) and a protected 2018 first round draft pick.
Plus, the Lakers are getting all-star Isaiah Thomas, who will be motivated to destroy the league after being thrown away by the Cavaliers, and Channing Frye, a floor-stretching forward who can recruit James this summer. The Lakers made out like gangbusters in this trade.
So recap of the trade:
Lakers Get: Isaiah Thomas Channing Frye Cavs 2018 first round pick
Cavs Get: Jordan Clarkson Larry Nance Jr.
I’m gonna miss Larry & JC. But wtf are the Cavs thinking lol? We won this deal.
Isaiah Thomas was obviously not working out in Cleveland. The fact that they were able to get rid of him was huge for the organization. They got a guard in Jordan Clarkson with more length defensively and a streaky shooter who will fit in with LeBron James.
Larry Nance Jr. adds more athleticism and is a versatile defender who doesn't need the ball to impact the game. Surrounding LeBron James with younger players will be key to keeping him in Cleveland beyond this year. The Cavs are setting themselves up nicely, winning the trade without having to give too much.
I really like what the Cavs are doing. They didn’t move the Nets pick. They took on money, but they aren’t going to be a cap space team anyway. They helped the Lakers, but I think this makes Cleveland the favorite to keep LeBron w/ more moves this summer.
