Is the U.S. Open less exciting without a Federer-Nadal match?
In the history of their incredible rivalry, Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer have never faced off at the U.S. Open. Tennis fans have been clamoring for this match on the hard courts of Arthur Ashe Stadium but were thwarted by the talented Juan Martin del Potro.
When Potro downed Federer, the air went out of the hearts of tennis fans, hoping to watch Nadal and Federer lock horns the United States' only Grand Slam tournament. With all eyes on tennis, a clash of the sport's greatest titans would have been an epic experience.
I had a dream that I had tickets to the US Open and I got to watch Nadal and Federer play. Then I woke up and wanted to cry. 😢— Cristina (@cristi10031207) September 3, 2017
I've wanted to see Federer-Nadal at the US Open for basically more than a decade, and this is just torture. Argh.— Sheron (@misssheron) September 7, 2017
While a match between Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal would have been incredible, the U.S. Open has already been a great tournament to watch and will continue to be a great tournament to watch. Juan Martin del Potro may have derailed a Federer-Nadal match, but his incredible comeback story from two wrist injuries has been something to admire.
There's also the women's draw that features four tennis players from the United States competing for one of tennis' greatest prizes—and everyone in the country watching them. There is plenty of excitement at this years U.S. Open. It doesn't a Federer-Nadal match.
