Do the Golden State Warriors even need a coach?

In the doldrums of a long NBA season, Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr handed the reins of the team to his players, letting them draw up plays and coach themselves. With a team as talented and intelligent as the Warriors, having a coach on the bench is redundant. Still, there are many nuances to head coaching Kerr has that the players don't have, like ego and time management. What do you think? 🏀

Steve Kerr may have coached himself out of the best job in the NBA. Kerr let his players coach in a midseason game against the Phoenix Sun, a game the Warriors won by 46 points. But is that really surprising? Golden State is one of the most talented teams in the league with intelligence to boot. You can basically throw anyone in there as head coach, and the Warriors would be just as successful.

Also, the Golden State Warriors have flourished without Steve Kerr. Back injuries kept Steve Kerr off the bench the last couple of years, and the Warriors have continued to win. Both Luke Walton and Mike Brown have filled for Kerr during their respective stints with the Warriors, going a combined 51-4. The Warriors are wasting their money on a coaching staff. They should just have the players coach.

Just because the Warriors are a talented team doesn't mean they don't need Kerr. Their players may be able to shoot anyone out of a gym, but no one can manage egos like Kerr can. He got a team of the best players in the league to buy into what he's selling. To be able to check those huge personalities and have them work towards a common goal is nothing short of a miracle.

Players have to deal with a lot on the court. One thing they shouldn't have to worry about is the timeout situation and clock management. That should fall to Kerr, who can make those decisions without having to distract his players. The Warriors still need Kerr.
