Did Willie Taggart get a fair chance at Florida State?

The Willie Taggart era at Florida State came and went without much fanfare and it's not hard to see why. The veteran head coach finished with a 9-12 record at Tallahassee and for a team used to competing for a national championship, it is unacceptable and he should have been fired. However, most college coaches get three years to build a program and he wasn't awarded that opportunity. Did Taggart get a fair shot with the Seminoles? 🏈

If you're going to take over a program with the prestige of Florida State, you better come in with a plan to win really fast. Taggart was obviously in over his head and he didn't understand the urgency that is needed to really turn this program around. Fans were losing interest and a change was needed in order to get the team back on track.

9-12 isn't going to cut it at Florida State and he had plenty of time to turn the narrative around.

There is no way a coach gets less than two years in college football and have that be called a "fair shot." It takes time to turn a program around and Florida State was in dire straits when Jimbo Fisher abruptly left midseason. To blame that all on Taggart and not give him an ample amount of time to put his imprint on the program is extremely unfair.

The Seminoles were looking for blood and Taggart was the unfortunate scapegoat who got all of the blame.
