The U.S. Figure Skating Championship will determine who gets to represent the United States at the 2018 Olympic games. Many feel figure skating equates to dancing on ice and should not be considered a sport. However, with powerful jumps and mid-air twists and flips, it takes a lot of athletic ability to accomplish aerial acrobatics while maintaining the artistry required for a high score. What do you think?

No sport receives as much subjective judgment as figure skating does. Every year, there seems to be a judging controversy that damages the legitimacy of the competition.

Sports are supposed to determine their winner through skills, not a panel of judges with agendas and biases. While what figure skaters do is graceful, its determination of winners based on judges doesn't make it a sport.

Everyone should strap on skates (basically knives on shoes) and try to do the things figure skaters do. It takes a lot of strength to be able to jump, rotate and land with as much beauty as these athletes do in a high-pressure environment. And to be able to make it look so easy shouldn't ding figure skaters in their yearly fight to be respected as athletes.

Figure skating is a sport and anyone who doesn't think so should give it a shot to see how difficult it is.
