The press, fellow athletes, and the United States bombarded Tonya Harding with nasty criticism when she was linked to the attack on the Nancy Kerrigan. But did they really know her? Did they know she was abused from childhood by her mother and spouse? Did they know she wasn't married to her ex-husband Jeff Gillooly, who facilitated the assault, at the time?

Many people assumed Harding was the perpetrator and attacked her accordingly. While she has her flaws, Harding did not deserve the repentant hate she has received, whether it's a vandalized car or hateful letters for over 20 years. With new details coming to light, she deserves an apology.

No one is going to look down on Tonya Harding for the conditions she grew up under. No one should have to go through what she went through, but she had a choice. She was complicit in a violent incident that intending to end a competitor's career.

People are trying to turn Harding into a sympathetic figure, but she doesn't deserve it. She is a villain in the sport for a reasonand because she at least knew about an impending assault on a fellow competitor and didn't stop itthere is no forgiving her or even apologizing for the backlash towards her. Harding asking for an apology is delusional and giving her this kind of attention is wrong.
