Will Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson save the XFL?

Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson was at the first XFL game to jumpstart the league. Now he owns it. The WWE legend and movie superstar partnered with Redbird Capital and purchased the defunct football league for $15 million. With Johnson now on board, many people think he can give the XFL a jolt and provide fans with the NFL alternative some fans are begging for. Others think that no one, not even the Brahma Bull, can save this struggling football league. What do you think? 🏈

With it's combination of fresh rules and mic'd up players and coaches, the XFL was already on its way to separating itself from the NFL, but the pandemic stopped any momentum the league had. Dwayne Johnson may have bought the league for relatively cheap compared to the amount of money he has netted from his illustrious career in professional wrestling and acting, but saving a league that continues to die is not a slam dunk investment. The Rock may be popular, but running a league takes more than a celebrity owner to keep it afloat, let alone successful.

Before the pandemic hit, viewership numbers were dropping from week to week. These aren't numbers that can be improved by one person.

The XFL is dead and people need to come to terms with that.
