Should Dirk Nowitzki just retire?

Dallas Mavericks legend Dirk Nowitzki is undergoing season-ending ankle surgery so he can be healthy to play in his 21st season. The German seven-footer has a championship, MVP award and a boatload of All-Star appearances. He should get the surgery and just ride off into the sunset. Still, while he has accomplished a lot, he has a lot to offer younger players and can still contribute on the court. The NBA wouldn't be the same without him. What do you think? 🏀

Dirk Nowitzki has accomplished everything he wanted to accomplish in his career. He has nothing left to prove to anyone. It's time to hit the ole dusty trail.

Nowitzki has logged over 56,000 minutes of NBA basketball in both the regular season and postseason. That's a lot of miles on those aging knees. He's earned the right to spend the rest of his life hanging with his family. It's time to retire.

Retire? Nowitzki is still killing it. There is no need for him to walk away when he's still contributing.

While he is only playing 24.7 minutes a game, he is averaging 17.6 points per 36 minutes. That kind of consistent production is still valuable to the Mavericks, who could use a steady force during a rebuild. Plus, he is a role model for younger players to look up to and teaches them how to be professionals in the NBA. Nowitzki still has a niche in the NBA and he should ride that out as long as he can.
